Kali Rises is one of those breeds of SciFi that bring the present and near future into focus. The story is in the tradition of Azimov and Clarke, in that in a fictional setting, questions are raised and answers hinted at. Karli Rises is a gripping read. I enjoyed the book, even though it has some dystopian overtones, it turns a spotlight on troubling present-day politics and policies that are only too real. The author challenges us to consider the current ethical and real possibilities of AI, and global politics running amok. I am a very critical reader of SciFi, however, the odd plot slip never detracted from the narrative.
The characters develop in different stages and as this is a partly collaborative work, it is understandable, but it does not detract from the story.
The follow-up to this answers a lot of questions that arise in this first book of the series.
Finally, a modern SciFi story that manages to rise above the average quality of some SciFi reads these days. There are some futuristic interpretations of technology but well within the realms of plot and style.
The story has legs if the author so wishes.
